Our History And The Story So Far
On a hot North London afternoon back in 1978—when disco ruled and RnB was on the rise—two friends looked at the DJ scene and saw a gap. Back then, equipment was clunky, expensive, and out of reach for most people throwing a party. Belt-drive turntables and basic mixers came in heavy wooden boxes, and the idea of hiring kit for a one-off event? Unheard of.
That spark of an idea—providing accessible, high-quality DJ equipment for hire—set the wheels in motion. What started with decks and mixers soon expanded into lighting, then staging, and before long they were running full-scale events. It was a simple vision: make great parties and professional setups possible for everyone.
Fast-forward to today, and Powerhouse has grown into one of the UK’s longest-established event hire companies. With over four decades of hands-on experience, our journey has taken us from a small retail unit in the early ’80s to ever-larger premises through the ’90s and 2000s, finally landing at our purpose-designed New Barnet site in 2018.
From here, we support events of every size—armed with an expansive equipment range, a passionate team, and a reputation built on consistency, creativity, and care. We’ve evolved with the industry, embraced every major shift in technology, and helped thousands of clients deliver unforgettable events.
The best part? We’re still just getting started. As new technologies emerge and expectations rise, we’re here to keep setting the standard—and to write the next chapter of our story with you.
Our Current Facility In New Barnet
Since September 2018, we’ve proudly called our site at Hazel Green Works in New Barnet home. What started as a small unit quickly evolved with the growth of our business. In 2020, we moved into a much larger space, and by 2022 we had expanded further—retaining our new unit while reclaiming the original one. At the beginning of 2025, we grew again, adding a fully air-conditioned office to our footprint, bringing us to three dedicated spaces.
By summer 2025, we had fully refurbished all of our facilities: installing new racking and pallet lifters in our main warehouse, and upgrading our set warehouse with new tools and improved storage systems—ensuring our spaces work as hard as we do.
Perfectly positioned for servicing London and the surrounding counties, our site offers unbeatable access to the M25, A406, A1, and A10. Whether it’s Mayfair, East or West London, we can be on-site in under an hour with a fully loaded van, ready to deliver.
Everything we do—from kit preparation to final delivery—happens under one roof in New Barnet. That means a seamless, comprehensive service designed to take your event to the next level, every time.
Hire Equipment & Support
Decades of experience have led us to procure a bespoke repertoire of equipment, highly tailored to what the market desires. We update our equipment regularly, often on a continual basis. We do this to assure that the equipment that goes to your event is of the highest standard. We stock major brands such as L’Acoustic, Yamaha, Chauvet Pro, Elation and ChamSys.
When you come to us, we don’t just give you the cream of the crop, we give you peace of mind. Our dedicated and highly skilled team are available and on hand to assist you with any queries or information you desire. We offer manuals at the bottom of our website for those who want an in-depth knowledge of their equipment, and we offer friendly spoken advice in-person when you collect, or when we set-up your equipment.
You can even count on us past the usual 9:30 to 5:30 office times, as our phone system diverts to a mobile, meaning that we always have a technician on hand to assist you with any help you may need.
Delivery & Setup Service
You can come to us to collect equipment, or you can take your mind off the traffic and the hassle and allow us to take care of the hard work by letting us deliver to you. We have specialist delivery teams who are at the pinnacle of experience within the events industry, and can rig the equipment you need in a timely, safe and professional manner.We often work in many famous venues throughout Central London, but also deliver to residences throughout London and Hertfordshire.We bring extras and spares to every job to make sure that the unique problems that often arise can be dealt with effectively. We also operate a drop-off delivery service for those who wish to set-up the equipment themselves. The Future
The future………It’s impossible to predict with absolute certainty—just look at the weather forecast to prove that. But if the past few years are anything to go by, we’re only just getting started.
So, where do we think we’re headed next?
Almost everything in our world has got smaller and smarter. Rewind 20 years and DJs needed a van just for their vinyl, plus a mountain of gear to play it. Then came the CD, making things lighter. Fast forward to today, and an entire music library lives on a USB stick or smartphone. Mobile phones that once resembled house bricks now fit in the palm of your hand, and laptops have replaced entire rooms of equipment. DJ lighting has shifted too—traditional bulbs are out, and energy-efficient LEDs are now the standard. Technology continues to shrink, but our ambitions—and our hire stock—keep growing.
Our journey has always been about building, improving, and staying one step ahead. Since 2010 we’ve expanded our facilities multiple times to meet demand. In 2018 we moved into a new warehouse and office space. In 2020 we moved again—into something much bigger. By 2022, we’d doubled down and taken back our original unit to run alongside the new one. And in early 2025, we took on a fully air-conditioned office to support our operations. By summer, we’d fully refurbished every inch of our premises, with new racking, new pallet lifters, and a fully upgraded set warehouse complete with new tools and more efficient workflows.
Then, in the summer of 2025, we launched our brand-new website alongside a complete rebrand—giving our look and feel the same attention to detail we give every show. The refresh represents who we are today: a forward-thinking, flexible and design-led production company, ready to work with the very best brands and agencies across the UK and beyond.
But what about the next chapter?
The focus now is all about pushing our inventory and technology even further. We’re investing heavily in cutting-edge sound, lighting, AV, and control systems—everything from wireless DMX and pixel-mapped fixtures to ultra-high-resolution video walls, all ready to meet the needs of today’s most demanding events. We’re sourcing lighter, faster-to-rig equipment that can deliver more impact with less setup time, and our design capabilities are expanding with the latest in control software and show programming tech.
Behind the gear, we’re growing our team too—bringing in new talent with fresh energy, technical expertise, and creative flair. Whether it’s engineers, warehouse crew, on-site techs or designers, we’re building a stronger, more versatile workforce to deliver the level of service we’re known for, and then some.

Our professional installation team will deliver, install and collect your hire equipment at an additional cost. We hire out to London and many of the surrounding counties including Hertfordshire.
A minimum hire spend of £150.00 + VAT is required for you to be eligible for delivery and there are additional charges for this service.
